TENNIS SHOES IN A THUNDER STORM

When I was a child, my mother always made us put on tennis shoes during thunder storms.  According to her, it would “ground” us to prevent harm in case we were struck by lightening.  I’m pretty sure if we were struck by lightening, tennis shoes would not be enough to save us. Wearing them, though, made us feel safer and less vulnerable.  Really, it was false security.
