Clothes make the man.  Naked people have little or no influence on society (Mark Twain).  Although meant to be funny, this saying by Mark Twain contains an important message.  Clothes serve to cover our skin and outside of that we place far too much emphasis on our appearance.  Styles come and go.  What’s considered cool or fashionable one decade is utterly ridiculous in another.  Sure, we do form impressions based on appearance.  That does not mean it’s an accurate impression and it does not mean it’s just.  Sometimes I try to figure out some sort of uniform I can use for work so I don’t have to think about what to wear. Really, the worst part of going to work is deciding what to wear.  I wish I could wear scrubs but as a social worker in a hospital I don’t want to give the impression I am a doctor or nurse.  I keep looking for a style of scrub sets that would work for a social worker.  The best I can come up with is still borrowed from another profession.  I use to work with a lady (God rest her soul) who wore a navy blue skirt and blazer with a white starched blouse every day.  I heard it used to be an actual nurse uniform at one time in days long past.  Now, I could buy 5 sets of the same outfit easily.  I don’t like that idea because I did always wonder if the lady was wearing the same suit every day without washing it or if she did, in fact, have 5 sets of the same suit.  I’m going to come up with a uniform that’s still varied enough to distinguish one day from the next.  Kind of like that underwear we use to get as children that had the days of the week printed on them.  I want an outfit for each day of the week and simply repeat every week.  I want it to be obvious though that they are uniforms and not that I’m just wearing the same clothes over and over again.  You can see I’ve already spent way to much time thinking about what to wear.  In the end I will grab out whatever catches my eye when I pick out my clothes the night before and continue to fantasize about the day someone creates a social worker only scrub set.  (written 12/3/17 for
