All that was great in the past was ridiculed, condemned, combated, suppressed–only to emerge all the more powerfully, all the more triumphantly from the struggle (Nikola Tesla).  What are some of the great things from the past that were ridiculed at the time?  I wonder what Nikola Tesla had in mind when he made this statement so many years ago?  What do we consider great now although it was not accepted originally?  I can think of wonderful products and advances we take for granted today although I am not educated enough on the original inventions to know which ones were seen as the great ideas they were and which ones were ridiculed.  I wonder if peanut butter was truly appreciated when it was originally developed.  Were the first automobiles recognized as the ending of an era?  What about indoor plumbing?  Did people realize that the invention of the steam engine would alter society forever?  Could space travel even be conceived of outside of fantasy and science fiction?  Antibiotics, germs, atoms, and vaccinations–how were these received?  What ideas and inventions are we making fun of today and we will be laughed at for not seeing their true value?  I wonder…
