“Recent research has indicated that the average individual listens for only seventeen seconds before interrupting and interjecting his own ideas (Gary Chapman)”.  It’s highly invalidating to be interrupted in the middle of sharing a thought.  When people start talking before we have finished speaking they are indicating that what we say is not important which feels like WE are not important.  Why do people do this?  Hardly ever do we finish a sentence completely.  Most of the time others jump in after a few words and come back with their thought, opinion, or interpretation of what we were going to say.  Often it’s not even right.  Do we push on in trying to get our thoughts out or do we give up and let the person speak their mind?  Obviously, what they have to say is way better than whatever we planned to say.  Right?
