Life is too short to spend your precious time trying to convince a person who wants to live in gloom and doom otherwise. Give lifting that person your best shot, but don’t hang around long enough for his/her bad attitude to pull you down. Instead, surround yourself with optimistic people. (Zig Ziglar) There are some people who are determined to be miserable. No matter how hard you try to cheer them up they come up with a way to negate your every effort. These people can find a bad thing in every situation no matter how wonderful. Do try to help these people. Try to be encouraging and hopeful. When you feel yourself being pulled down then it’s time to stop and move away from the situation. When you begin to hear “yes, but…” in response to every suggestion or idea you set forth it’s time to accept this individuals’ right to wallow in self-pity or misery and cease trying to help. Some people are committed to unhappiness and are highly offended if you or anyone else dare to suggest avenues of hope or encouragement. Don’t jeopardize your own sense of confidence and optimism for the sake of someone else’s negativity. Don’t let them keep you out in the rain simply because you want to share your umbrella.
