The use of affirmations (declarations, proclamations, assertions) can be helpful and powerful.  Affirmations are used in many ways.  They can be used to redirect your mind away from troubling things.  Affirmations can be used to help you overcome a negative thought pattern which, in turn, will help you overcome a negative behavior pattern.  Another benefit is to help create a positive change over time.  There are millions of affirmations available for virtually every need.  A quick internet search will yield plenty to choose from.  You can find a whole list to read daily.  A single one repeated mentally, verbally or in writing throughout the day is also an option.  One easy one to start with is “I am strong, confident and wise” (or some version of this message).  Saying this one to yourself through out the day will build up your strength in general and will lead to more specific areas for your focus.  Begin now! 10/15/16
