This is important and so different than any way you’ve ever heard before, you are going to be completely shocked!  I’m going to talk a few minutes about measuring progress or defining success.  It’s very simple AND easy.  Yes, I said EASY.  Success and progress are defined by this one thing:  you keep trying.  That’s it!  As long as you keep trying you are successful in this process.  All you have to do is to keep trying and don’t stop trying.  If you have to start over 300 times a day and you keep starting over–you are making progress–you are successful in the instant you decide to try again.  If you fall and fall and fall–as long as you keep getting back up–keep trying–you are making progress, you are succeeding!  You will find that as long as you keep trying you will be able to look back and see that you are, indeed, doing better this year than you did last year.  The only measure of success in this process is that you keep trying.  Trust the process.  Don’t beat yourself up.  Just get up and keep trying.  Never, never give up!  Discouragement, doubt, shame, judgement, criticism, embarrassment and any other thing that causes you to think of yourself as a failure is your enemy and to be fought as hard as you can fight it.  Tell yourself as many times as you need to that you are not giving up and you will keep trying forever.  That, my friend, is your path to immediate success and freedom.  You see, it’s not just the substance or behavior that’s been controlling you.  It’s the constant effort to measure up to impossible standards that’s been controlling you.  Stop with the standards and stop with the report cards.  Remind yourself-“If I fall then I fall.  I will get back up and the fall did not erase the moments I stood.  I will add to those moments of standing but maybe they won’t all be in a row.  It’s still success and I am still making progress because I’m still trying, I’m not giving up, I’m going to try, try and try again”.
