VISUALIZATION


There are several ways to use visualization in day to day life.  Visualization is when you use your imagination to picture something in your mind for a specific purpose.  For example, you can visualize people around you when you are feeling isolated or alone.  You can visualize guards, walls, protective animals or a force field surrounding you when you are afraid.  Visualization is a way to use your mind to control your emotions or physical responses that are causing  you distress.  It’s simply a way to use mind over matter so to speak to gain some control of how a situation is affecting you physically or emotionally.  Visualization is good to use when you are in an environment you cannot leave for whatever reason.  Visualization is an excellent technique because the ability to use it is with you all the time.  You don’t have to stop and go get something else to use visualization.  Give it a try and see if it’s something that will help you.  I use it most when I am around people who, for whatever reason, trigger anxiety or stress and I cannot leave their presence right away.  I also use visualization when I am hearing something that bothers me and I still have to remain listening.
