20 WAYS I WAS ABLE TO LOSE UNHEALTHY WEIGHT AND STAY AT A HEALTHY WEIGHT

  1. I decided I actually wanted to be smaller and was willing to live with the negative aspects of losing weight and being smaller.
  2. I decided what was most important for me if I was going to be successful (what my food, lifestyle and personal preference priorities were).
  3. I remembered what worked in the past and did more of those.
  4. I acknowledged what does not work for me and did not do any of those.
  5. I identified what I was willing to do and made these things part of my plan.
  6. I accepted what I was not willing to do and left those things out of my plan.
  7. I implemented short term strategies I knew were not going to be permanent.
  8. I integrated long term strategies I knew I could keep up forever.
  9. I agreed to allow myself some relapse days and weeks and enjoyed them when they happened.
  10. I understood I’d gain some weight back during the transition period between losing the unhealthy weight and maintaining the healthy weight.
  11. I avoided putting myself on “a diet” and looked at everything I did as a choice I made and completely up to me if I did or did not continue with that strategy or change.
  12. I refused to deny or deprive myself.
  13. I did not set a deadline.
  14. I kept trying different strategies until something worked.
  15. I never gave up.
  16. I started over as many times as I needed to.
  17. I did not listen to anyone else about what I should or should not be doing.
  18. I alone decided what my healthy weight would be and what my unhealthy weight would be.
  19. I prioritized overall health not just physical appearance.
  20. I committed to continuing the process the rest of my life.
