Strategies for avoiding distraction, daydreaming, inattention and spacing-out

  1. Touch something nearby;
  2. Keep something in your hand;
  3. Notice colors, shapes and other specific things around you;
  4. Mentally name or describe what you are doing as you do it;
  5. Identify smells close by;
  6. Focus on sounds around you;
  7. Repeat “I am here” to yourself;
  8. Keep both feet on the ground (literally);
  9. Stand or sit up straight;
  10. Avoid staring at one spot
